Getting a Business of the Ground – the never-ending to-do list

This week, I was planning to dive into the Buyer Representation & Broker Compensation Agreement—specifically, my take on why this agreement is being marketed as a much bigger deal than it actually is.

Headlines have shouted “GAME CHANGER” across the industry, but in reality, it’s not. Commercial real estate has used this form for years. Many residential agents have too, long before it became mandatory. At its core, it’s simply an employment contract—one that says, “We’re working together, and here’s how.” Real estate is one of the few industries where people regularly work without contracts, and let’s be honest: no one thinks working without a contract is a smart move.

But I’ll set that topic aside for now, because what’s currently top of mind is the never-ending to-do list that comes with getting a business off the ground.

I’m sitting here on a Sunday, fully aware that I need to build a website—one that can actually house this very post. And honestly? It feels like the moment right before ripping off a Band-Aid. How bad will it be? Will it hurt? Will it go smoothly? I’ve heard Wix is user-friendly. I’ve built a Squarespace site before, and while it wasn’t awful, it definitely required more tutorials than I wanted to watch. Some say WordPress is better for SEO but is more to manage. AHHHHHHHHH!

Today I’m debating: do I hop on Fiverr and find someone to help me build the site, or do I power through it myself? Real estate start-up life means money isn’t exactly flowing freely. So is it worth spending some cash to save time? Or is that time better spent learning the platform myself and stretching every dollar?

This is the classic founder dilemma: where to spend your time, and where to invest your money. What’s the best use of your energy today for the biggest payoff down the road?

So here I sit, brain swirling—wondering which direction to take, when that first wave of momentum will hit, and what the tipping point will be that finally pushes me to choose a path, commit, and hit Go.
