On The Move

East pasture: Atkinson, Nebraska

The Fourth of July, Nebraska Style.

Nebraska? Yep, Nebraska.

The photo above is me riding in my uncle’s pickup truck as we bounce through what my family calls the East pasture. (Side note: if someone could bottle the smell of this pasture after a summer rain, I’d happily pay luxury perfume prices.)

My mother’s family has been ranching in Nebraska for four generations. My grandfather raised about 120 head of cattle. Today, my cousin manages more than 550. Like any business, ranching has had to evolve. Market forces demand growth, technology drives efficiency, and the entrepreneurs who adapt survive. Yes… I can talk both curb appeal and cattle!

The Fourth is celebrated in Stuart, population 550, where it feels like 80% of the town turns out for everything. There’s a parade of vintage cars, floats, ginormous tractors, a rodeo, duck races, and, of course, fireworks launched from just about every backyard. My favorite this year? The one that launched hundreds of tiny parachutes into the sky that had kids sprinting across the lawn to catch them.

Cities celebrate ambition. Small towns celebrate community. Neither has a monopoly on innovation, hard work, or entrepreneurship. But one thing small towns seem to do exceptionally well is remember what they’re building it all for.

After every visit, I come home with a fresh appreciation for both worlds, and convinced that each could borrow a little something from the other.

More on Eichler

In the April 2026 edition of
On The Move, I shared my recent discovery of Joseph Eichler’s progressive stance on fair housing.

Since then, I’ve come across an even better story!

I recently had the distinct pleasure of meeting Monique Anton of Modern Homes Realty, who produced a compelling 45-minute documentary on Joseph Eichler. The film highlights how Eichler didn’t just build houses, he built communities.

Monique is also the steward of the exclusive rights to Eichler floorplans, working alongside architects to thoughtfully update these iconic designs to meet today’s building codes while preserving their original vision.

The IPO House:More Than Just Amenities.

The Bay Area’s new wave of AIwealth is redefi ning what buyers expect from a home.

Forget about the statement wine cellar! Today’s wish lists includeeverything from circadian lighting (who knew that could be athing?!?!) to spa-quality wellness spaces to advanced air and waterfi ltration, resilient infrastructure, and concierge-level services that hasa home providing services not just amenities.

My favorite takeaway, though, is that the people creating tomorrow’stechnology increasingly crave spaces that help them unplug, provingthat sometimes the greatest luxury is living a little more analog.

The Data's Gone Missing

Somewhere between Compass HQ and my inbox, this month’s market reports seem to have wandered off.

As of 3:44 p.m. PT on Friday, July 10, they’re still nowhere to be found.  Rather than hold this newsletter hostage while we wait, I’m hitting send anyway.

My data first newsletter, Moves & Metrics, will make an appearance later this month hopefully, with the missing data in tow.

Having dined at many a Pizza Hut growing up, this story made me smile.

Pizza Hut is reviving some of its old-school restaurant charm after customers made one thing clear: the experience mattered as much as the pizza. There’s something reassuring in that. In a world constantly chasing optimization, speed and the next big thing, maybe progress isn’t always about replacing the past.
